PE and Sport Premium
Funding Overview
In 2024–25, Northfields Infants & Nursery School received £16,790 in PE and Sport Premium funding.
Total expenditure for the year was £17,688. The additional £898 was met through parent contributions towards after-school provision, ensuring that participation could be widened without limiting access.
The funding has been used in line with the DfE Conditions of Grant to make additional and sustainable improvements to physical education, school sport and physical activity.
How the Funding Was Spent
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) – £1,540
Funding supported external training and membership of the North Herts School Sports Partnership (NHSSP). This enabled professional development for the PE Lead, access to School Games events, and collaboration with other schools.
Impact: Improved staff confidence and strengthened curriculum planning in PE.
Equipment and Lunchtime Resources – £6,163
Funding was used to enhance physical activity during break and lunchtime through the purchase of structured sports equipment and active play resources.
Impact: Increased structured physical activity at lunchtime, improved coordination and fundamental movement skills, and greater engagement across Reception to Year 2. The equipment remains in use throughout the school year and supports daily active play.
External Provision and School Games Activities – £9,985
Funding supported multi-sports lunchtime provision delivered by Premier Education, an after-school sports club, participation in School Games and partnership events, and exposure to a wider range of sports including tri-golf, lacrosse, athletics and inclusive activities.
Impact: Increased participation in structured physical activity, broader exposure to new sports, strong engagement across year groups and inclusive access for pupils of all abilities.
Physical Activity at Northfields
All pupils access PE lessons per week, daily opportunities for active play, structured lunchtime sports provision and seasonal use of the school field for outdoor sport.
As an infant school, our focus is on developing coordination, balance, strength and enjoyment of movement as foundations for lifelong physical activity.
Sustainability
Sports Premium funding is used to build sustainable systems rather than short-term provision. Staff training, structured lunchtime activities and investment in durable equipment ensure that improvements remain embedded beyond the funding year.
Annual review meetings with external providers ensure provision continues to meet pupil needs and broaden participation.
Swimming Provision
For the 2024–25 financial year, swimming provision for Key Stage 1 pupils was delivered exclusively at St Christopher School and provided free of charge to families.
