Cultural Capital
At Northfields Infants & Nursery School, cultural capital is the knowledge, experiences and understanding that enable pupils to participate fully in society and succeed in future learning.
We ensure that all pupils, regardless of background, access a rich range of experiences that extend beyond the classroom. Cultural capital is woven through our curriculum, assemblies, visits, partnerships and wider school life.
Through carefully sequenced curriculum themes, pupils encounter significant ideas, creative works, historical events and diverse perspectives. They learn about the local community of Letchworth, the wider United Kingdom and the world beyond.
Community and Partnership
Strong local partnerships enhance our provision. Key Stage 1 pupils have attended swimming lessons at St Christopher School, and sixth form students lead art and music sessions for our pupils. Our collaboration with The Grange Academy supports curriculum alignment and shared opportunities.
Pupils take part in the Letchworth and Stevenage Writing Project, culminating in a celebration at the Broadway Theatre. They meet authors, artists and musicians, and experience live performances of theatre and music.
Creativity and Expression
Pupils undertake artist studies, explore a range of art forms and perform to an audience. Through Democratic Time, pupils choose from a range of co-curricular activities that develop independence, creativity and social confidence.
Our school podcast provides opportunities for pupils to develop oracy, confidence and communication skills.
Nature, Sustainability and Responsibility
Forest School is a central part of our curriculum, promoting resilience, teamwork and appreciation of the natural world. Pupils grow and harvest produce, take part in eco-projects and contribute to our Eco-Committee. Our Gardening Club has represented the school at the Hampton Court Flower Festival for over a decade and has achieved Eco Schools recognition.
Democracy and British Values
Through assemblies, Picture News and structured discussion, pupils explore democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect. They engage with age-appropriate current events and develop the confidence to express their views thoughtfully.

- Engage in outdoor learning, including pond-dipping and environmental study.
- Learn how to cook, grow food and understand healthy living.
- Represent the school at events and contribute to community initiatives.
Through these experiences, pupils develop curiosity, confidence and an understanding of their role within both the local community and the wider world.
