If it is unavoidable for your child to miss school due to illness, you must telephone or call the office giving the reason for absence by 9:15 am.
Without a valid reason, your child will be given an ‘Unauthorised Absence’ mark in the register.
If you do have to take your child out of school during term time we ask that you email the head teacher with your request.
The Government strongly discourages the taking of holidays during working school time. Any absence means your child is missing valuable learning time.
Recent changes to legislation make it clear that Head Teachers no longer have the discretion to allow up to 10 days in a school year for a family holiday or to agree to extended leave for parents to visit their country of origin. We are also not able to grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
A decision on whether the school will be open cannot usually be made until the site and staffing levels have been assessed.
Parents can check whether the school is open in several ways:
- Check the school website which we will update as soon as a decision is made
- Listen to local radio or check their website
- Check Hertfordshire County Council’s school closure website
