British Values at Northfields

Living our REACH values every day

At Northfields Infants and Nursery School, British Values are not taught as a separate subject. They are part of how we help children feel safe, respected and confident, and how we support them to grow into kind, thoughtful members of their community.

These values are embedded through our curriculum, behaviour expectations, relationships and daily routines, and they align closely with our school values of REACH: Respect, Expression, Achievement, Creative, and Hearts full of fun.

Democracy

(Expression, Hearts full of fun)
Children are encouraged to share their ideas, express opinions and make choices. This might be through voting for class activities, contributing to discussions, or helping decide classroom routines. Pupils learn that their voice matters and that listening to others is important too.

The Rule of Law

(Respect, Achievement)
Clear rules and routines help children understand fairness, safety and responsibility. Pupils learn why rules exist and what happens when they are not followed, supported by calm, consistent responses that help them reflect and learn.

Individual Liberty

(Expression, Achievement)
We support children to develop independence, confidence and resilience. Pupils are encouraged to try new things, make choices and express themselves, while learning how to do so safely and respectfully within school boundaries.

Mutual Respect

(Respect)
Respect underpins everything we do. Children are taught to treat others with kindness, empathy and care, to value differences, and to work cooperatively. Positive relationships between pupils and adults are central to our school culture.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

(Creative, Hearts full of fun)
Through stories, celebrations, discussion and learning about the wider world, children are introduced to different cultures, traditions and beliefs. Pupils learn that families and communities can be different, and that difference should be respected and celebrated.

By embedding British Values in an age-appropriate and meaningful way, we help our pupils feel secure, valued and ready to engage positively with the world around them.
